The Not-for-Profit Difference
CANPFA promotes a vision of the
world in which every community offers an integrated and coordinated continuum of
high quality, affordable health care, housing and community based services.
CANPFA members are all
mission-driven, not-for-profits. Not-for-profits focus on caring and
provider services for their residents and clients. They re-invest their income
into their facilities, resident programs and staff development. They are rooted
in their communities. Their trustees and board members are respected members of
the community and usually donate their time and expertise to the organizations.
Not-for-profit providers also have active volunteer programs, drawing heavily
from the local community.
History
CANPFA was
founded in 1961 to represent and promote the interests of the not-for-profit
long-term care providers in Connecticut. Today, we have approximately 150
members who care for 15,000 elderly at their facilities and in the community.
Our members include not-for-profit nursing homes, residential care homes,
subsidized senior housing, continuing care retirement communities, assisted
living, home health care agencies and adult day centers.
Values
CANPFA values
self determination, compassion, benevolence, individual dignity, diversity,
social responsibility, and promoting volunteerism.
Vision
CANPFA will be recognized as the leading association advocating for healthy, affordable, and ethical services and care for older adults and chronically ill individuals
Mission
CANPFA is an association dedicated to advancing the quality of services and care for older adults and chronically ill individuals by leading, educating, representing, advocating and servicing its members who are mission-driven, not-for-profit providers representing the continuum.
Education
Professional development is vital for those working in long-term care and senior housing to keep up with changing laws and regulations and to insure the quality of services. Formal and informal programs address issues in clinical practice; operational, strategic and financial challenges; human resources; ethics; and information systems.
By participating in our educational programs, Connecticut employers continually demonstrate to their employees that they are attentive to their long-term professional development and careers. CANPFA provides educational programs for long-term care and senior housing professionals in Connecticut. Because CANPFA is certified by the State to award continuing education credits for nursing home administrators, we are able to offer educational opportunities that enable members to maintain their professional licensure. If you are interested in registering for a program or want to receive more information about one, email
